Bible Verses About Fasting: Chastising the Soul and Strengthening the Spirit

Bible Verses About FastingFasting is one of the most viable means for the spiritual growth of any person, regarding the spiritual growth of any human being.

Fasting is an art that is mentioned in the holy bible where any man who does it has closer access to his creator, this is because it reaches the highest levels in the human spirit, that is, man (man and woman) enters the spiritual environment .

Be it in the spiritual environment of light or darkness.Fasting is a punishment for the human body so that the body does not dominate its actions. That is, fasting is an ancient practice, which Jews often did to annul their sins and desires in the flesh to prepare themselves for a relationship with their creator. One of the books in the Bible that mentions about fasting is the psalm that mentions (Psalm 69:10) “I wept, and I punished my soul with fasting, but even this became an insult to me.”

The soul is where the desires of all men live – the Bible mentions in 2 Thessalonians that man is body, soul and spirit. In other words, there is a difference between these three stages of man, man, without feeding his spirit, is guided by his desires, that is, by his soul. The eyes are the window of the soul and everything seen through it is desired, which is why the apostle Paul dictates that the believer should not be guided by sight but by faith. Faith is something invisible.

Basically, the Bible mentions that anyone who wants to please God must be guided by the Holy Spirit, that is, live in the spirit. And a well-illustrated practice to be closer to the spiritual realm is fasting.Check out some biblical verses about fasting and its power below. In general, fasting is a powerful practice for gaining knowledge and wisdom.

Matthew 17:20-21

Then Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for truly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this species cannot be extinguished except through prayer and fasting.”

Comments: unbelief is something that is mentioned in the Bible and is one of the means by which a man is saved or not. This is because to be saved you must believe and believe in the son of God.

Today we only have access to believe in the writings and if we do not believe in their writings we will not be saved. In these scenarios it is not about expelling the demons with fasting, this is because fasting had already expelled the demons.

The Lord Jesus is among people who are unbelievers and one of the means to leave unbelief is fasting. Another scenario is described in Mark, after his appearance after his resurrection, a scenario of disbelief on the part of his disciples. Therefore, he mentions that whoever wants to believe and is baptized “will be saved”. Something that takes away the certainty of “yes, yes and no, no” because he is speaking in an environment of unbelieving people and this must be understood. A Christian must be certain of his Master and Lord and of his work done on the cross of Calvary.

Luke 2:36-38

Now there was one, Hannah, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser. She was elderly and had lived with her husband for seven years since her virginity; and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God by fasting and prayer night and day. And arriving at that moment, she gave thanks to the Lord and spoke of him to all those who were waiting for redemption in Jerusalem.

Comments: Both fasting and prayers directed to God must be in union. This is because fasting helps to overcome the desires of the soul and strengthens the human spirit.
