What does the Bible say about watching bad things?

Our eyes need to be very attentive to what we watch and look at during our earthly journey. Watching bad things can influence our decisions and why not change our lifestyle. The truth is that we need to be careful, as the Bible mentions that the eyes are the window to our soul. In general, the Bible is saying that everything our eye sees, it desires.

This happened in the garden of Eden, it happened with David desiring Uriah’s wife and many other examples.

But does the Bible say about watching bad things and does it really influence a person?

In this article we will analyze and look for the answer in the source of wisdom that is the Bible.

The truth is that you can watch horror or war films, because the Bible does not prohibit this type of thing, but you need to understand what the apostle Paul mentions in 1 Corinthians 6:12 “everything is permitted to me”, but neither everything suits me. Everything is permitted to me”, but I will not let anything dominate”.

The question at hand is whether what I see as permitted is in some way edifying me, is it appropriate to give up my time and dedicate time to this and will what I am watching influence my life?
Will what is being transmitted somehow influence my thoughts or even contaminate it. Sometimes some films have the power to create negative thoughts and this can be a problem and takes away divine rule and establishes earthly dominion.

Philippians 4:8

The truth is that man is inclined to do what is bad. Man is seduced by forbidden things, an example, God tells Adam not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the first opportunity he had was there and he did it. Paul mentions that the good he wants to do he doesn’t do, but the bad he doesn’t want to do, he does. This is because evil is employed in this sinful body. Therefore, it is good to do what the Bible says, which is to focus on “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure….whatever is admirable…think about these things” (Philippians 4:8).

There is no biblical mandate about what you cannot watch – you as a Christian are naturally guided by the Spirit as to whether or not it is okay to watch certain things. Understand that some films or TV series can disrupt your spiritual life and your relationship with God. Therefore, put what you watch on the scale and see if there is edification or entertainment in what is being said. If this isn’t affecting your spiritual life then there’s no need to worry – try to always watch and be attentive, because it’s the little things that keep us away from God.
