What shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or with what shall we be clothed?

Verse: “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?'” — Matthew 6:31

Reflection

In the Bible verse we saw above, Jesus reminds us in this verse that we should not occupy our minds with temporal things. This is because God knows very well that these things are part of human need and He will certainly provide what is necessary for each one.

Christ invites us to change our mindset. Instead of putting energy into material things, we have the duty to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness first. Soon after seeking the kingdom, God will grant us all other things (Matthew 6:33).

Restlessness is very common when we lack something, and with it comes anxiety. In essence, this is nothing more than a lack of trust in God’s provision. They arise when we forget that He is faithful and that His promises are true. This verse is an invitation to live with the assurance that God cares for us, just as He cares for the birds of the air and the lilies of the field (Matthew 6:26-28).

Practical Prayer

Lord, help us to trust in You with all our hearts. Free us from the worries and anxieties that distract us from Your presence. Teach us to seek first Your Kingdom, knowing that in You all our needs are met. May we live with the peace that surpasses all understanding, trusting that You are our provider in all things. Amen.

Practical Application:

Today, as you face the worries of your day, remember to leave everything in God’s hands. Instead of allowing anxiety to dominate your thoughts, pray and thank God for His constant care. Make a list of all the ways God has been faithful in your life, and use this as a reminder to trust Him in every situation.

Challenge:

During this week, take some time to meditate on Matthew 6:25-34 and ask God to increase your faith and trust in Him. Look for areas in your life where you have struggled with anxiety and turn those concerns over to God.
